COVID-19 PROCEDURES

In order to maintain service availability, we will be pre-screening for  COVID-19 exposure and/or symptoms both on the telephone when an appointment is made AND before entering the Centre.

Patients with COVID-19-type symptoms or a recent positive test/close contact with a person who has tested positive (in the 14 days prior to the appointment) will be offered apointments in the external consulting room at the rear of the centre.

While these measures are in place all access to the Centre is by the rear entrance (from Church Street car-park)

MASKS ARE REQUIRED BOTH IN THE CENTRE AND IN THE EXTERNAL ROOM

 

Traralgon Medical Centre (TMC) is a private practice located in the CBD of Traralgon. The centre is located in the arcade (Suite 1) on the Plaza side of Traralgon Police Station. There is an automated door (disabled patient access) via the Church Street car-park entrance behind Harris Scarfe. The doctors (a Practice Principal, GP Registrars and Independent GPs practising out of TMC) offer a wide range of medical care and comprehensive rural generalist services including aged care, palliative care, home visits, fracture/sporting injury management, immunisations including travel vaccinations, men’s/women’s health checks, minor surgical procedures, cryotherapy, acupuncture, TENS electro-analgesia and a structured approach to Asthma, Cardiac, Renal and Diabetic Care.

Dr Paul COUGHLAN

MB BCh BAO. DCCH. FACRRM. FARGP. M.Fam.Med (Clinical). Graduate Diploma Integrative Medicine. Board-Endorsed Medical Acupuncturist.

Dr Coughlan graduated from University College Dublin. He did his General Practice specialist training in Scotland. He has been with the centre since moving to Australia in 1991 and continues to enjoy the challenge and variety of Rural Generalism.

Based on his Australian Rural Fellowship (Foundation Fellow of ACRRM) and a Clinical Masters degree in Family Medicine, his areas of extended practice are in:

  • Chronic Disease and Comorbidity management
  • Musculoskeletal Medicine (including Sports Medicine)
  • Non-pharmaceutical Pain Management (including Medical Acupuncture).

He has a special interest in Medical Education.

Dr Coughlan has a full complement of patients, but can assist the other doctors by providing non-pharmaceutical pain management on referral.

Dr Dilini Jayasekara

MBBS RACGP REGISTRAR

Dr Dilini Jayasekara completed her Medical degree (MBBS) in Sri Lanka and worked at Latrobe Regional Hospital, Traralgon, since moving to Australia in 2018. She has worked across multiple specialties including Critical Care – Emergency Medicine/ICU, General Medicine, General Surgery and Obstetrics/Gynaecology before joining the GP Training Programme. While enjoying the variety offered in General Practice, she has a particular interest in the areas of Womens and Childrens Health and Wellbeing, Mental Health and Geriatrics.

Dr Thilani Navaratne

Dr Thilani Navaratne has recently joined the Practice as a General Practice Registrar.

Dr Abbas Doustmohammadi

Doctorate of Medicine

Dr Abbas Doustmohammadi graduated Medical School in Iran in 2004. He has experience working as both a Family Doctor (GP) and an Emergency Doctor in Iran from 2004 to 2011. Abbas migrated to Australia in 2011. He has worked as a GP in Australia since 2012, working in a Home-Visiting service in Melbourne until relocating his practice to Traralgon in 2022 to gain rural experience while working towards his Fellowship in General Practice.

Dr Doustmohammadi is happy to see New Patients.  Private Charges will apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

FEE/BILLING POLICY

Each Doctor sets their fees independently. Reception staff are happy to explain the details to you and provide you with information outlining your rebate and gap payment.

Fees are due at the time of consultation: a discount is offered for payment on the day.

Full fees will be charged if you choose to take away an account. 

Payments can be made by EFTPOS, bank transfer, cash or cheque. 

Fees reflect the cost of providing and maintaining a medical service to the community.

AFTER HOURS

The doctors practising out of TMC share a rota on-call system with other Clinics. To find out the details of the doctor on call please telephone 51745350 and a taped message will give you instructions.
Please note: All after hours visits will be charged at private rates.

HOME VISITS

Home visits are available for regular patients whose condition prevents them from attending the centre.
Please call the centre during office hours and leave details with the receptionist. In an emergency your call will be put through to a Doctor.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS

Unless your Doctor has indicated otherwise, repeat prescriptions  will not be issued without an appointment.
At the time of your consultation the Doctor will usually give you the maximum number of repeats available. To maintain continuity with your medication we suggest you make an appointment when you have had your last repeat script filled.

IMMUNISATION

A range of immunisation services are available:

  • Childhood immunisations (information forwarded to the National Register)
  • Adult vaccines including hepatitis, tetanus.
  • Advice regarding travel vaccines can be discussed by making an appointment.
PATHOLOGY/TEST RESULTS

Unless your doctor advises you otherwise, we suggest you wait at least 24 hours after the test before ringing for results.

TELEPHONE CALLS

The Doctors do not accept incoming phone calls during consultations except in emergencies. The receptionist will try to give you an early telephone appointment (please see the Telephone Appointment information below) or will take details of your query and your contact number and pass these on to the Doctor at the earliest opportunity.

FACILITIES FOR CHILDREN

Due to COVID-19 infection protocols we no longer offer a play area/toys/books for children. Change facilities, bottle warming etc are available on request.

PARKING

A large Council all-day parking area is located behind the centre (entrance off Church Street). Limited 15 minute and 2-hour parking spots can also be found at the front of the premises on Kay Street. Patients with mobility issues are advised to use the rear entrance for ease of access (automatic doors).

All information provided by you is strictly confidential. Your information is stored securely.
If you wish to access your medical history please arrange an appointment with your Doctor.

FEEDBACK/CONCERNS

The first point of contact for any feedback, concerns or complaints is our Manager, Dawn. If you have any suggestions or problems we would like to hear from you. We are keen to resolve any difficulties or concerns you may have with regards to our service.

The Health Services Commissioner (1800 136 066) can provide advice if you feel you need more assistance.

TELEPHONE APPOINTMENTS

  1. When you speak to Reception to set your telephone appointment, make sure you confirm your phone number and if you want the call to go to your landline or mobile
  2. Wait for the Dr to call at the nominated time. Only ring back into Reception if you haven’t received a call within about 30-40 mins of your appointed time – the Dr will call as close as possible to the booked time but may be delayed by prior appointments running overtime.
  3. The Dr’s call will come in as a private/unlisted number – please ensure your phone settings don’t send such calls straight to message bank.
  4. Occasionally the Dr may call early, so keep your phone close at hand.
  5. Medicare regulations require that a patient has been seen physically in TMC within the previous twelve (12) months for a telephone consultation to be eligible for a Medicare rebate.
